We’re always excited when a couture collection lands in our mailbox. The latest couture collection by Tony Ward got us especially stoked because we’ve been itching to share this collection with you since the first few images were unveiled on their Instagram feed.
Inspired by architecture and origami flowers, the Spring 2014 Tony Ward couture collection is a beautifully measured profusion of structured blooms and architectural forms. The striking silhouettes are executed in a mixture of duchess satin, hand-painted silks, silk chiffon, gazar, embroidered tulle and macramé lace, with tone-on-tone beading providing texture. The palette consists of soft pastel colors like lilac, yellow, and blush, balanced with black and white.
We love the three-dimensional elements incorporated into the bodices and necklines. In a shimmery white ensemble (pictured above), the floral motif appears to be weaved into the bodice, then sinuously draped over the neckline before finally blossoming into folded petals adorning the one-shoulder strap. The wedding dress finale (shown below), so uniquely pretty, is paired with a veil flecked with a mosaic of geometric pieces of fabric, echoing the imprint on the hemline of the gown. Isn’t it magical?
