Jenny Ji (吉承), a young fashion designer from Shanghai, showcased her 2010 Spring/Summer collection of couture bridal gowns at the opening ceremony of Shanghai Fashion Week on 21 October 2009. Themed “The Wedding Banquet”(囍宴), Ji broke away from tradition by combining eastern and western elements to create a unique style with her first ever haute couture wedding collection called “The Wedding by La Vie”.
Inspired by Chinese elements, the wedding dresses from the collection were presented in a palette of white, red and black, with primary focus on stringent tailoring using silk, chiffon and lace, and adorned with Swarovski crystals for added glamor.
Jenny Ji, a born and bred Shanghainese, had worked for Basic Krizia and Missoni Sport Hong Kong and attended fashion design institute Marangoni in Milan, Italy before returning to China to start her own label “La Vie”. Our two favorite gowns below — a strapless dress draped with a bold swash of fabric and a column gown with feather v-neck bodice.
